Extreme Testing of our Xpanse Solar Awning

Like many of our customers, we’re also outdoor enthusiasts so when we set out to build our XpanseTM solar awning, we knew that durability was core to creating a world class product that people could trust to perform no matter the weather conditions or situations. As a result, we have dedicated a significant amount of R&D that designed quality and reliability into the product from the start, incorporating these key design approaches:  

  1. We used proven traditional solar technology, with manufacturing processes designed to last more than 30 years
  2. We integrated smart sensors to automatically retract the awning in dangerous weather or operating conditions
  3. We designed the support structure to withstand 7G forces and still perform every day   

Critical to the design phase was testing the awning to simulate the harshest of real-world conditions. As we complete our testing phase, we are convinced that XpanseTM is not only the most powerful awning on the market, but also the most robust, most tested, most reliable RV solar awning you will find. He is what we did:

  • Vibration tested the solar panels, simulating 10x the forces experienced driving off-road
  • Researched why some awning designs succeed while others fail to come up a rugged arm design, and then blasted the awning design with 45 mph winds to test its performance in high winds 
  • In a test chamber, soaked XpanseTM in temperatures ranging from below-freezing -4° F to 150° F while opening and closing the awning hundreds of times
  • Sand-blasted the awning in 40 mph winds following military grade testing specifications
  • Completed a grueling 30,000-mile equivalent road test, driving over extensive arrays of deep potholes, Belgium blocks, lumpy gravel roads, and desert off-road conditions. (The road track was so tough that we blew six tires on our RV, had to replace two leaf springs, and unintentionally rearranged the interior of the RV!) 

Through it all, XpanseTM performed flawlessly: No solar damage, no movement of the fasteners, no performance degradation in our repeated, daily, open/close cycle testing.  We’re confident that for those looking for durable 1200W RV solar power, XpanseTM will deliver.
